The country’s sole oil refinery, Eastern Refinery PLC, is poised to recommence its oil refining operations. Authorities concerned announced that these activities would restart this Thursday (May 7) from the afternoon.

Mamunur Rashid Khan, Deputy General Manager (Operations) of Eastern Refinery PLC, stated that a new consignment of crude oil has arrived in the country. If all goes according to plan, refining operations will commence after 5 PM.

He mentioned that an initial daily production target of approximately 3,500 tons has been set. Production will be limited initially due to the need for technical adjustments, with output gradually increasing thereafter.

Khan further informed that the vessel named ‘MT Nainemia’, arriving from Saudi Arabia, has anchored in Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar. The ship is carrying approximately 194,000 metric tons of crude oil.

Meanwhile, Md. Sharif Hasnat, Managing Director of Eastern Refinery PLC, confirmed that with the arrival of the new crude oil consignment, preparations are underway to operate the refinery at its maximum capacity as planned.

According to refinery sources, the current crude oil reserves are sufficient to sustain refining operations for an estimated 20 to 25 days. Furthermore, there is a possibility of another consignment arriving in the country after May 20th this month. Officials also stated that if a new consignment is loaded from Saudi Arabia between May 10th and 12th, there will be no disruption in supply.
